Weeeeee U!

Wii_U_GamePad_-_White_1

Microsoft’s less than stellar reception of the Xbox One has had a huge impact on many gamers who were utterly disappointed by the direction the next gen console had taken. The stinky Kinect nonsense, non-existent backward compatibility and bullshit online DRM has resulted in a tented bulges going totally flaccid.

Where’s the rewind button?

One the plus side, the shambolic unveiling of the Xbox One has seen a huge spurt in Wii U sales, with Amazon.com reporting nearly 400% increase in sales on Nintendo’s game machine. The obvious disenchantment with Microsoft’s worlds largest TV remote control has even prompted the pompous bastards down at Electronic Arts to re-examine their stance on the Wii U.

PS4toaster1

More features than the Xbox One. But will the PS4 have backside deniability as well?

Things are hotting up. Will Sony learn from Microsoft’s massive cock up or will the monkeys who botched up the marketing of PS3 prevail? Can the makers of the Walkman and the developers of an operating system continue to survive in the video game console market? We’ll find out soon enough.

Out With The Old, In With The New

Ff8_logo

Here are some pretty screenshots of the high definition version of the old classic PSX RPG, Final Fantasy VIII. This version of the game will be for the PC (yes, its a re-release with bells and whistles and spinning rims).

At the moment, this game will only be released in Japan, owing to the fact that JRPGs have disintegrated in the last 10 years or so, thanks to the massive snub by Western (largely American) gamers. Fingers crossed that SquareEnix will include multi-lingual support.

So, take a gander at these pictures courtesy of Kotaku.

What is thoroughly shocking is the rumored Final Fantasy 7 HD that was reported in Famitsu. But that is another story.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII Snuffed Out?

After years of rumours and speculation, we can all rest assured that Square Enix has pulled the plug on the much anticipated ‘Versus XIII’.

It has been over six years since the game was first announced, and with the dreadful lack of programming talent, Square Enix had moved on to the next numbered Final Fantasy title, which finally puts to rest the preposterous Fabula Nova Crystallis fable once and for all.

No public statement will be made on the decision, a source told Kotaku. Square Enix is apparently keen to avoid any acknowledgement that could impact the company’s stock price.

Square Enix told Eurogamer it “could not comment on rumours or speculation” when contacted about the report.

Meanwhile, more details on the future of the Final Fantasy 13 project – which already spans a number of games – will be announced in September, Square Enix has announced.

A presentation entitled “Final Fantasy 13 Lightning Saga: New Developments Presentation” will take place on 1st September as part of a 25th Anniversary event for the series.

Square Enix has previously teased more Final Fantasy 13 content – although it’s unclear whether this means additional Final Fantasy 13-2 DLC or a fully-fledged Final Fantasy 13-3.

They could have fooled us with these screenshots looking more like digital artwork more than anything else. But Warner Bros Interactive seem to have come up trumps on the visual front of the up coming Arkham Origins.

Check out these beauties.

Maybe my last request was too mired in subtlety. I want this man dead. When I say “dead”, I mean seriously dead!

Batman: Arkham Origins is currently being developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal. It is set to release on October 25, 2013 for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC.

Finding A Mountain To Hide

250px-Darkstone

Creator of the classic Future Wars, Cruise For A Corpse and Flashback is currently in the midst of brewing an Android and iOS version of the action RPG smash hit, Darkstone.

90mm

There are currently very little details regarding the conversion but fans will be glad to hear that the game will be retaining most of the aural delights that made the first game unforgettable. We’re hoping it will include the original Audren theme song.

Darkstone is played in the style of Gauntlet/Diablo, featuring tons of randomly generated levels and 4 distinct classes to choose from. It had a smooth progression of difficulty and 3D sprites with an isometric and top down view and a fully rotatable camera. The game also allowed co-op action either with a human or AI controlled second player, which is much more that gamers can expect in any PS3 or Xbox 360 game.

Darkstone is slated for a June 2013 release.

I Ain't Afraid Of No Ghost

large

Activision has confirmed the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts which is widely believed to feature an old character from Modern Warfare 2 who goes by the moniker, ‘Ghost’.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is expected to be released on Nov. 5 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The company will provide an exclusive first look at the game during Microsoft’s May 21 Xbox event.

The Windows operating system giant will be unveiling the new Xbox Durango/720/Fusion at that event. Activision said Call of Duty: Ghosts will launch on next-generation platforms, hence the reason for Activision’s presence at the event.

On the brighter side, Peter Molyneux is also expected to make a grand appearance at the big show as well.
